Coaching vs
Traditional Therapy
-
Coaching sessions are centered on building concrete roadmaps for future performance and success vs rehashing past lived experiences and psychological recovery.
-
Coaching has a reduced stigma. Teens feel less like they need to be "fixed" because it carries no medical diagnoses and less of a perception that something is wrong.
-
Coaching provides an equal partnership for your teen. A coach acts as a peer rather than an analytical authority figure. Let's face it, your teen does not want to hear wisdom, advice or tips from their parents. However, when a teen provides their own solution by answering reflective questions, the teen is more likely to implement the solution.
-
Coaching establishes consistent accountability. Sessions entail motivational interviewing, check-ins, and measurable outcomes to keep teens hitting their personal goals.
NOTE: Coaching is not a substitute for medical treatment. You should choose a licensed therapist if your teen struggles with clinical anxiety or depression, unresolved trauma or severe grief, self-harm or suicidal ideation, substance abuse or eating disorders.
